CEO Report
Our Community
Despite all the trials in 2021, our staff’s giving nature never ceases to impress. Their dedication to our Charity Partnership Program with Pathways to Education Canada did not falter, and together they raised $5,254 in our third and final year of this initial commitment. Across 3 years of optional payroll deductions, pre-pandemic in-office fundraising events, and a corporate matching scheme, we are pleased to have been able to donate a total of $57,337. By helping young Canadians complete high school and secure prosperous post-secondary and employment opportunities, Pathways offers a 1:24 social return on investment. This means that our contributions to Pathways has the potential to render up to a $1.37M return to society. And dare we say, we had fun doing it.
Our Staff Association, while completely bereft of the ability to plan in-person events for a second year, also continued to fundraise for local Edmonton charities throughout 2021. Giving back has always been the foundation of our culture at Peace Hills, so it comes as no surprise that they were able to raise over $7,458 over the course of the year, and the Committee chose iHuman Youth Society and Autism Edmonton as the recipients of these fundraising efforts.
At a corporate level, we were pleased to announce the revival of a pledge to the Friends of the Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS) Indigenous Student Museum Internship (ISMI) Program. In October 2021 we committed $17,000 over the next four years with this meaningful initiative within our community. Established in 1998, the ISMI program offers First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students a paid 16-week internship at the Royal Alberta Museum to further develop their career goals in the fields of cultural and natural heritage. As an Indigenous-owned entity, Peace Hills is proud to align with the ISMI program as it has been integral in encouraging the Museum as a cultural resource for Indigenous people.
